Portfolio

Below are some examples of websites I have helped develop during my career, both at Dennis Interactive and as a freelancer. I have included some examples from the archives, so you can get a feel of how the sites have developed over the years.

Dennis Interactive Websites

Auto Express website

Auto Express Magazine

Developed 2006 (Version 5)

  • Adapted from the Maxim codebase of 2005.
  • CMS and front end code shared with other Dennis motoring titles, evo and Octane magazines.
  • Website features car comparison tools and numerous third party integrations, such as new & used car search tools.

Maxim website

Maxim Magazine

Developed 2005 (Version 4)

  • In house content management system and front end website.
  • Codebase developed to allow international licencees to have their own version of the website, quickly & simply.
  • Content could be shared across international titles, using built in rights management.
  • Codebase went on to be adapated for use across most Dennis titles and still in use today.  CMS most recently used on 2009 launch of Expert Reviews.

Computer and Video Games

Developed 2001

  • First PHP/MySQL driven content management system used by Dennis.
  • Codebase dubbed the "Games Portal" and was shared by all of Dennis's computer game titles.
  • Portal concept was adapted for use by other publication departments: motoring, lifestyle, gambling and IT.

PC Pro website circa 2004

PC Pro Magazine

Developed 2004 (Version 3)

  • Driven by an enhanced version of the 2001 version of the Dennis CMS.
  • Front end codebase developed with technology partner.

Developed 2002 (last code update in 2009)

  • Award winning website of comedian Richard Herring.
  • Uses PHP/MySQL driven tools to update the content.
  • Users can change the website skin.  Skins are added to reflect that year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival show.
  • Self-built newsletter software, for monthly emails to fanbase.
  • Has extensive download archive of scripts, flyers and photos.

NOTBBC Homepage

NOTBBC

Originally developed 1996

  • Community website, covering a broad range of topics.
  • Began at university as a hobby project, written in Perl and using tabbed text files to store data.
  • Latest version uses PHP/MySQL, complete with its own content management system.
  • Different forum formats can be selected, but the vast majority of the users still prefer the original frame based(!) format from 1996.
